Some people are only productive when they have to be accountable to someone else.
So before you go the self-employed route…compare yourself to this checklist and see if you match up:
- Do you have the discipline to set aside x amount of hours every day-and stick to your plan?
- Do you enjoy working alone-and not being part of a team?
- Do you typically take a part of what you earn and invest in other ways to make money?
- Are you a saver or a compulsive buyer?
- Is earning a good income more important than having a title?
- Are you [moderately] organized and have a system for getting your work done?
If all of the above qualities describe you… I predict you’ll find much satisfaction in self-employment.
If you met most of the criteria-but not all-you’ll probably do ok. But you’ll need to make up for what you lack.
For example, if you get restless with too much alone time–consider having lunch with friends on a regular basis.
If none of the above describes you…you may need to rethink this path-or instead do it on a part time basis to supplement your full time job.
Here’s one more trait I forgot to include in the checklist- Willingness and readiness to take action.
Self-employed types are go-getters.
How about you? Are you ready to get going?
If you took a hit in the tough economy-this is your chance to gain control of your life and finances.
Earn a profit without selling anything?
Yes, it’s possible.
This means…
- No dealing with customers.
- Work 1-2 hours a day.
- Get paid on time.
- Ready to open the door to opportunity?
